The Schloss is situated in the world-famous Salzkammergut region with rolling hills and snow capped mountains – even the Emperor of Austria fell under the spell of the glorious landscape of the Salzkammergut region and chose it as one of his favourite summer holiday destinations. A mere five kilometres from the castle, the Attersee – Austria’s largest lake – waits to be discovered. Just a stone’s throw away – Salzburg, the city of Mozart. Austria’s beautiful capital, Vienna, is also just two hours away, easily reachable by car, train or plane. Seventy-five acres of private park, a clay tennis court, a seven-metre diameter pool and our historical outdoor bowling alley all invite guests for along and relaxing summer stay. Although Lake Attersee cannot be seen from Schloss Salzburg, its presence can be felt. In fact, the entire Salzkammergut region is tangible here: a spirit of recuperation and cultural richness presides – far removed from urban pomp. Indeed, even the crunch of the gravel as you stroll along the path through the park sounds somehow more relaxed here. All of the rooms offer all the comforts of modern living seamlessly incorporated into the original furnishings. Eight double rooms and one single are complemented by colour co-ordinated salons and large spacious bathrooms and there is plenty of space for children to play. The baroque Schloss was originally built by the noble family Khevenhüller near the small village St. Georgen i. Attergau.
In the year 2000, the entire castle was fully renovated and parts of it were opened for celebrations and events. Exclusive weddings, family reunions, concerts, exhibits and official dinners find the perfect setting in the reception rooms which are beautifully furnished in the Austrian fin-du-siècle style. Lovely guest rooms are also available. In addition to its natural beauty, the area also offers an abundance of cultural events and activities. Experience intimate concerts in local village churches or attend the world-famous Salzburg Music Festival.
The wonderful lakes and their surroundings offer a wide variety of sports and leisure opportunities, including swimming, diving, fishing, sailing, surfing, hiking and free-climbing. You can visit the Emperor’s summer villa in Bad Ischl or take part in an exciting hunting expedition – it’s the perfect spot for the whole family.
